Villa Mamas was the project that started our run in food and beverage. It is a Bahraini concept, founded by a Bahraini businesswoman, and it has since opened branches outside the country. The restaurant's second floor was designed entirely by Rectangles.
The menu borrows from everywhere, so the room does too. Rustic surfaces sit with shabby chic fabrics and patterns, and pieces from different decades share the same wall. We let things clash a little, so the room feels like a house that has been lived in for years.
Almost every item was made or reworked for this room. A lot of the furniture was restored or recycled instead of bought new, which kept the design more sustainable and gave each piece a history before the first guest sat down.
